Zion National Park Driving Tour

National Parks Road Trip:

This scenic byway runs for 54 miles. Travel time is all about 1.5 hrs.

In the west, you receive around the byway in the intersection of Hwy 9 and Interstate 15, about 9 miles east of St George. Around the east, the Byway finishes at Hwy 89, at Mt Carmel Junction.

Hwy 9 may be the major road supplying use of Zion Park. It winds beyond the park customer center and museum, and past many famous Zion landmarks. It offers use of Zion Canyon (accessible by shuttle only throughout the tourist season) after which experiences the park's mile-lengthy tunnel. It slices the park's Checkerboard Mesa area after which finishes at Hwy 89 at Mt Carmel Junction.

A charge is billed they are driving with the park.

The byway parallels the Virgin River in lots of areas. Near I-15, it offers use of Quail Creek and Sand Hollow Utah Condition Parks. It slices the cities of Hurricane, Virgin, Rockville and Springdale before entering the Park.

Near Rockville, it offers use of Grafton ghost town, a photogenic site which was featured conspicuously within the movie "Butch Cassidy and also the Sundance Kid."

Large automobiles and RVs are needed to pay for an escort fee to visit with the Zion Tunnel.

You are able to drive this byway included in a loop, circling north and coming back via Hwy 14 over Cedar plank Mountain, or circling south and coming back via Hwy 89 through Kanab and Fredonia, after which Hwy 389 through Colorado City to Hurricane.
