Hiking in Zion National Park

The park has two customer centers which are open all year round. Site visitors are urged to prevent and learn to go to the park with minimum impact towards the fragile desert atmosphere. In the Site visitors Center you'll find maps, pamphlets, and books available that will help you enjoy your visit.

Zion Canyon Customer Center

Situated just within the South Entrance from the park near Springdale.
This customer center is open daily throughout the next hrs:
Spring: 8:00 am to six:00 pm
Summer time: 8:00 a.m. to eight:00 pm
Fall: 8:00 am to six:00 pm
Winter: 8:00 am to five:00 pm

Museum

Situated half mile north from the park's south entrance, the Museum is open 10 am to five pm daily with longer summer time hrs. It's closed November through Feb. Permanent and temporary exhibits display a brief history of Zion Park. A 22-minute video plays every 30 minutes to permit site visitors to obtain a quick summary of the park.

Kolob Canyon Customer Center

Situated off exit 40, Interstate 15 in the West Entrance from the park. To make contact with the customer center call (435) 772-3256.

This customer center is open daily throughout the next hrs:
Spring: 8:00 am to five:00 pm
Summer time: 8:00 am to five:00 pm
Fall: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Winter: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Both Customer Centers are closed December 25

Costs and Permits

America the gorgeous - Nature and Federal Leisure Lands Pass is honored as well as offered at Archways. Price is $80. This is actually the cheapest price for individuals planning to go to multiple parks inside a year's time. You will get it on the internet.

Private Automobiles/RVs:

$25 per vehicle for any 7-day pass

Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Motorcycle: $12 per person for any 7-day pass. To not exceed $25 per family.

Tunnel Escort
Most buses, RVs, trailers, and dual wheeled trucks require an escort to visit with the Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel. There's a $15.00 fee per vehicle additionally towards the entrance fee. Site visitors should pay this fee at park entrance before proceeding towards the tunnel. Needed for those automobiles and trailers 7' 10" (2.4 m) wide and/or 11' 4" (3.4 m) tall or bigger. Fee will work for 2 outings with the tunnel for the similar vehicle within 7-day period.

Back country Permits
Permits are needed for those overnight stays within the back country and all sorts of through hikes from the Virgin River and tributaries, the Left Fork of North Creek (the Subway), Kolob Creek, and all sorts of canyons needing using climbing down gear or ropes. Permits are released at both customer centers yesterday, or even the day's your hike.
