Going to the Park

Elongated shadows mix the ground of Zion Canyon early in the day, while sunlight bathes the tops of massive sandstone towers. Mormon settlers gave these natural miracles scriptural names, like the Altar of Sacrifice, a legal court from the Patriarchs, and Angels Landing. But even without these properly reverential names, the truly amazing figures, hulking 2Thousand ft over the canyon floor, command our respect and awe. This narrow, curving gorge appears to chop over time itself.

Zion is really a canyon of spectacular and huge scale. Its verticle with respect coves are nearly 3Thousand ft high. Its great rock figures are imposing and monolithic, much like the monumental buttresses, deep hanging canyons, rock landings, and alcoves which have been gouged from the high cliff faces.

As opposed to this grandeur, top of the finish of Zion Canyon, only a couple of miles away, is really narrow that a couple standing alongside can touch each of the canyon’s rock walls. The canyon is really deep the sun permeates to the floor for just minutes every day.

Unlike other canyon parks — including Canyonlands, Bryce, and also the Grand Canyon, where lots of site visitors see the canyons using their rims — Zion draws site visitors to the floor. From that standpoint, they appear up in the stupendous verticle with respect topography. Walking across the Virgin River, which produced this scenic spectacle, park site visitors obtain a unique perspective on character.

Because they contemplate the truly amazing rock figures towering above them in the tranquility of groves of Fremont cottonwood, willow, and box elder trees, which line the canyon floor, site visitors have the unusual tranquility of the unique place. Here, only moderate sounds interrupt the special reverence the canyon inspires: the song of the quail, water trickling lower a side valley, or even the wind coming with the leaves.
